First experiments with Nutanix AHV Turbo.

One of  the improvements that came along with Nutanix  AOS 5.5 was IO path optimization feature called “AHV Turbo”.

While the marketing department at Nutanix might have fallen asleep and woken up in 1990s with god-awful name like this, it is actually a GOOD feature.  Every time I hear word “Turbo” in IT related matters, it just reminds me of my first ever PC, a 286 with a “Turbo” button, which supposedly boosted performance by increasing  frequency from 8 Mhz to 12 Mhz, but did actually do diddly-squat 🙂

Nutanix Acropolis hypervisor (AHV) vs Vmware vSphere hypervisor, AOS 5.5 edition

Third installation of this popular post comparing Nutanix Acropolis Hypervisor (AHV) and Vmware vSphere Hypervisor. This version is based on Nutanix AOS 5.5 version. Earlier versions of this post can found by clicking following links: 4.6 and 5.0.

There are still some use cases where using Vmware with Nutanix platform is required. But the list is getting smaller and smaller and there are less and less reasons to pay hypervisor licensing fees.

Enabling Nutanix “Stargate” I/O statistics page access with allssh command, AOS 5.5 edition

Finally got my hands on AOS 5.5 and upgraded our lab Nutanix cluster to this version.

In my earlier post I described how to manipulate “iptables” rules to allow access to “Stargate” or “port 2009” pages. Stargate page contains lots of detailed information of I/O operations, more info in my earlier post. It seems that “iptables” configuration has changed in this version.

In versions prior AOS 5.5 “iptables” chain used was called “WORLDLIST”. In AOS 5.5 the name of the chain has changed to “MGMT_OPENFROMALL”. This requires changes in “iptables” commands used.
