April 1, 2017 update notes for Visio by DPTPB stencil collection.
Executive Summary
- All DPTPB SAN switch and ATTO bridges shapes have been updated, using the same design as recently upgraded 10GbE and 1GbE switches. More info on design changes for switch shapes can be found in my blog post: Visio by DPTPB: Update Notes for All Switch stencils.
- Added Brocade G620 32G FC switch shapes
- Removed some SAN switch shape variants and all 8GB Atto (6500N) shapes to reduce clutter and make shape maintenance easier.
New Brocade G620 32G FC switch DPTPB shapes
It seems that following Broadcom acquisition Brocade is shaving costs and has fired their Visio developers. They used to have nice vector based stencils for their gear. Their current SAN Visio stencil package is quite a downgrade when compared to the previous shapes. All shapes are basically copy-pasted Powerpoint raster images, not in scale, no connection points, no nothing.
So I used similar technique as with DPTPB Nutanix shapes: take a decent shape as a starting point, break it down to components and make your own shape. This time the “donor” shape was a VDX6740 switch with 48xsfp+ ports + 4xQSFP+ ports, very much like G620, only difference is the optics/cables used: VDX uses Ethernet optics/cables where as G620 is equipped with Fibre Channel optics/cables. In fact in real life they might even share some, if not most components.
Since making the shape involves some conversion between vector formats and copy-pasting from inkscape, the end result is not 100% match to the original image, but close enough and whole lot better than those sorry-cheap-ass-powerpoint-imitations.

Updated ATTO 16G Fibre Channel – SAS Bridge DPTPB shapes
ATTO bridges are mostly used with NetApp MetroCluster setups. Updated ATTO shapes to follow similar logic as other switch shapes. Updates applied only to the latest generation of 16G ATTO bridges (7500N). Removed old 8G ATTO shapes.
Atto bridges can be used with Fabric Metrocluster and in this case they are connected to Back-End SAN switches. Separate variants for Fabric Metro
Additionally you can build a stretched ATTO MetroCluster without back-end fabric. This limits the distance between sites to few hundred meters, but potentially saves costs as there is no need for back-end SAN switches, as ATTO bridges are directly connected to NetApp controllers. Separate variants for direct attached ATTO bridges
ATTO bridges are typically deployed in pairs, one ATTO pair at “site one” and one ATTO pair at “site two”.
