Visio by DPTPB: NetApp FAS / AFF Disk Shelf Stencil (V2)

Oct 24, 2017 Visio by DPTPB release update notes. Long over due documentation of new NetApp FAS / AFF Disk Shelf Stencil, already released back in May :=)

New DPTPB NetApp FAS / AFF Disk Shelf Stencil has by far the most complex internal structure, hopefully in favour of much easier shape usage. Besides standard V2 design changes, there is now much more automation and dynamic features with the new disk shelf shapes.

Visio by DPTPB: 4-Node NetApp AFF A700 Fabric MetroCluster sample drawing

I’ve haven’t had pleasure to design a solution based on AFF A700 platform yet, maybe one glorious day… Quite often performance / capacity requirements can be fulfilled with lesser platforms like AFF A300 or even AFF A200.

Visio by DPTPB: Rack Stencil (V2)

April 24, 2017 Visio by DPTPB release update notes

Shape placement and spacing with the original V1 DPTPB rack shapes has been a manual process. Fairly easy to do, but still required some effort. I’ve addressed placement / spacing issues with new dynamic rack shapes with automatic placing for both front and rear view rack shapes.

Visio by DPTPB: V2 stencils, finally done :)

April 24, 2017 Visio by DPTPB release update notes

Finished with updating remaining DPTPB stencils to follow “V2” design, where all data associated with the shape is now within top-level shape and rear view shapes have connection points to match rear view rack shape. Like with previously updated DPTPB stencils, new “Rack”, “NetApp Controller” and “NetApp Disk Shelf” shapes look pretty much the same as the old ones, but under the covers new shapes are using completely new design.

Fun part of learning new stuff and building new shapes is over, now only the more tedious part of documenting the changes remains 🙂 In this post I will cover the changes on high level, more in-depth info in upcoming posts.
