Feb 17,2017 update notes for Visio by DPTPB stencil collection, part 1
The first iteration of Nutanix shapes in Visio by DPTPB stencil collection. This has been on my to-do-list for a while and I haven’t put too much effort into it, few reasons for that:
- With Nutanix the network cabling scheme is way simpler than with tradional 3-tier architectures
- only few types of cables to connect
- = much less possibilities to make mistakes
- = cabling drawing is not as beneficial as with more complicated 3-tier architectures
- Some quality issues with original Nutanix Visio shapes
- Good news is that Nutanix Visio shapes are getting better
- The basic functionality is now at acceptable level
- shapes are in-scale
- ports / mount points have connection points (at least most of them)
There are still some choices to be made with Nutanix cabling, especially with 10GbE DAC cables, for more info see my blog post: “Nutanix + 10GbE Switches + DAC cables: Working Combinations“. With choices comes possibility for mistakes. To avoid errors with Nutanix cabling, some design work is required. To help that, I’ve decided to make my own version of Nutanix shapes that will work with my other shapes, like 10GbE Switch shapes and so on.
There is quite a lot of material to cover, so I’ve split this post into multiple parts.
